First, get all of the MotorTrend+ free trials detailed on this page, one after the other. You’re not limited to a trial on just one platform.
The annual plan could save you money but only if you’re planning on subscribing for more than 10 months of the year. However, it might actually cost you more in the long run (even if you could get the extra military discount) since you’re losing the ability to cancel when you’ve run out of things to watch.
With any streaming service, I’d usually take the stop and switch approach. Subscribe to the monthly plan, watch what you want to watch, then cancel. You could switch to another streaming service in the meantime and re-subscribe if or when it makes sense.
